Internal Linking
The deliberate structure of links between your own pages, which distributes authority, guides visitors, and tells search engines what matters most.
Internal linking is the connective tissue of a site: which pages link to which, with what anchor text, and how many clicks anything sits from the homepage. It is the one ranking lever entirely under your control, and one of the most neglected.
Search engines use internal links two ways. They discover pages by following them, and they infer importance from them: a page every section links to reads as central, while a page nothing links to (an orphan) reads as an afterthought, whatever its quality. Anchor text adds meaning; “read our WordPress migration guide” tells a crawler far more than “click here.”
The structure that works is deliberate: pillar pages that own a topic, supporting pages that link up to them, services that cite the case studies proving them, and articles that route readers toward the service they describe. On a site with dozens of pages, intentional linking is often the cheapest meaningful SEO win available, no new content required.
