Topical Authority

The depth and breadth of genuinely useful content a site has on a subject. Search engines reward comprehensive coverage over shallow, one-off pages.

Topical authority is the idea that a site known for covering a subject thoroughly will, over time, rank more easily across that whole subject. Rather than chasing one keyword per page, you build a connected body of content that answers the full range of questions a topic raises.

Search engines lean on this because it mirrors how trust works in the real world. A site that addresses a subject from many angles, links those pieces together sensibly, and keeps them accurate reads as a genuine authority, not an opportunist publishing a single thin page to catch a search.

Building it is patient work: mapping the questions and subtopics that matter, covering them properly, and interlinking them into clusters. It compounds, though. Each strong piece lifts the others, and the resulting authority is far harder for a competitor to dislodge than a single well-optimised page.
