WordPress Page Builder
A WordPress plugin or theme tool, such as Elementor, Divi or WPBakery, that lets people design pages by dragging and dropping elements instead of writing code.
Page builders let non-technical teams create and change layouts without a developer, which explains their popularity. The cost is code weight. To stay flexible, builders typically wrap content in several layers of markup and load their own CSS and JavaScript, much of it unused on any given page.
That weight shows up in Core Web Vitals, especially on phones, and grows as add-ons pile up. Content is also stored in the builder’s own format, such as shortcodes or builder-specific data, so leaving the builder later can mean rebuilding pages rather than exporting them.
For a small site with modest traffic, a builder can be a reasonable trade. If slow pages are costing leads, or the team spends more time fighting the builder than using it, compare the cost of optimizing it with the alternatives: WordPress’s built-in block editor, a custom theme, or a move to a static front end.
